In my first year of college, I had the great pleasure of meeting someone who is now a great friend that encourages and inspires me daily. Tyler Armstrong has had no formal art training whatsoever - he is a self-taught painter whose creative pieces are raw and filled with vibrant, visible emotions. After attending Tyler's art shows in the city of Toronto in the past, I knew this one would be a little bit more special, due to it occurring on Tyler's "home turf" of Mississauga.
On Thursday April 25th, I attended the opening reception of Borderline, which brings together 5 artists; Tyler Armstrong, Steve deBruyn, Sarah Febbarro, Ryan Legassicke, and Mary Porter. The most interesting thing to me was that even though all artists use different techniques and mediums, all pieces seemed as if they could be part of a single collection, which consisted of polaroids, flip books, paintings, installation pieces, and more.

As someone who continuously supports my work, I'm so proud (and honoured!) to call Tyler a friend, and I'm so excited to see his career take off.
